The prepaid calling card market has been very competitive and different providers have been advertising really low rates that are simply unbelievable.

Points to note when buying a prepaid calling card:

1) Types of calling cards
There are 2 main types of phonecard in the market. IDD cards and callback cards. IDD cards are usually used by users who call from a fixed line or mobile users who have extra airtime credits which they are unable to utilize before the expiry date. Callback cards are usually used by mobile users who have free incoming call plans.

2) Calling Card Provider
We suggest purchasing a phonecard where the company name is indicated in the card. Avoid buying a phonecard where no company name is indicated or only the license number is indicated. Should you encounter any issues with your phonecard, you would know how to contact the calling card provider.

3) Calling rates
Check the internet to see if the provider displays the rates online. We suggest purchasing a phonecard from a provider who is transparent in showing its customers how the rates are deducted and whether connection fees, maintenance fees and other hidden cost apply.

4) Billing block
Billing block is usually in 1 minute, 3 minute increment, but exception applies. Charges are calculated by rounding up to the next billing increment, thus the lower the billing increment, the better it is.

5) Expiry date
Expiry date ranges from 7 days to 180 days. Please check the expiry date and utilize the credits before the phonecard expires.

6) Hotline hours
Purchase phonecards from providers who provide a fixed line number or office number as hotline and operate on fixed working hours so that you know when you get assistance should you need help. Avoid buying from provider who provides a handphone number as a hotline.

7) Calling card denomination
Denomination ranges from $2, $5, $10 to $25. If you are using a phonecard for the first time, we suggest buying a smaller denomination to test the voice quality.

With so many phonecards in the market, please compare the phonecards based on the points above and make a smart purchase.
